Nutrient availability and uptake are determined by the pH value of soil: With low pH values the availability of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium and molybdenum is restricted, with high pH values nitrogen, calcium, magnesium, iron manganese, copper and zinc become less available.Therefore fast, simple and exact measurements of the pH value are very important.

Also for the evaluation of irrigation water, the measurement of pH value is very important. Many plants can be harmed by irrigation water with too high or too low pH value.

In food & drink production and storage, the measurement of pH value of meat, dairy products, juices etc. is another central application.
